Hot air supports wind-power farms, not research. Viewed 28,431 times

This morning, I'm sitting at Salt Lake City airport waiting for a flight to Los Angeles, so I responded to a "greenie" on a facebook discussion about energy. Because I believe that nuclear power is a viable method of electric power generation that has been maligned by a ignorant, green, radical, environmentalist an acquaintance on the social network told me only people with their head in the sand support nuclear power generation plants.
She hadn't heard the term "N2N" which stands for Natural Gas to Nuclear. Writer Ed Hiserodt points to a definition by author Robert Bryce in his book POWER HUNGRY. "N2N- a process [Bryce] sees going on around the world, except in some countries such as the United States where the government is dominated by environmentalist radicals. As part of the second N, he forecasts the use of small community reactors a tenth of the size of current reactors utilizing technology where meltdowns are impossible. These would include reactors powered with thoriaum, an element three times more abundant than uranium."
Mr. Hiserodt, writing in the February 20, 2012 issue of THE NEW AMERICAN, and quoting Robert Bryce, asserts that one of the key myths of green-radicals is that "Wind Power Reduces CO2 Emissions." Mr. Hiserodt asks, "Would you be surprised that wind-power boosters so not have a single study- based on actual data collected from the world's existing fleet of wind turbines and conventional electricity-generation plants- showing that wind power actually reuces carbon dioxide emissions?"
Considering that the anthropogenic-global-warming fear mongers contend that the most serious danger to mankind is due to human poduction of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere that supposedly causes global warming (ignoring the key green house gas- water vapor), one would expect such a study of wind turbine reduction of carbon dioxide to exist. Unless of course the data paints and opposite story.
Hiserodt points out that wind turbine use is shown to actually increase the carbon footprint for dependable electricity generation due to the undependable nature of wind.
"however, a wind turbine on a network of other generators where an energy level must be maintained continuouslyis a horse of a different color. Because winds are extremely variable- and the power gnerated by a wind turbine is a function of the cube of the wind speed- there must be electricity-producing backup systems for all industrial wind generation. And since electricity is used the moment it is created, the backup generation must be on the verge of producing power at the instant the wind turbine component drops.
In other words, the backup generator must be a 'spinning reserve': always operating and producing nearly as much CO2 as when generating power. Making the problem [CO2 generation] worse, since the backup generator must slow down (cool down) or speed up (heat up) to comensate for the gain/loss of wind gneration due to wind variances, the backup systems operate very inefficiently."
On my way to the airport this morning a radio commentator was talking about a radical group of environmentalists demonstrating against oil sands development because somehow the "pristine environment" would be disturbed in view of a national park in Utah. Funny the radicals care about pristine views where oil is concerned but they don't care how many stupid-looking windmill farms blot the pristine views across Idaho, California, Utah, etc.
